Artist of the Month: Ronald Steenberge
Ron was born and raised in Malone, New York. He excelled in mechanical drawing in high school. He is a graduate of Albany Business College and retired as a 1st Sergeant from the National Guard after 35 years.
Ron’s only experience with paint was selling it at Sherwin Williams when he was in high school and college. After his retirement he learned about blending stain colors while working for Village Furniture and Design. Ron had never attempted to drawn or paint artistically until his 72nd birthday. In lieu of a birthday gift, Ron’s mate suggested she set him up with a hobby. He chose painting with acrylics. It was obvious from the start that he had a natural talent. He began watching tutorials on U-tube, then started painting his versions of other artist’s work. In doing so he developed his own style and techniques. Ron’s passion is painting old barns and historical buildings. His newfound passion got him through the Covid 19 epidemic, during which he and his mate were separated. He describes painting as relaxing, rewarding and satisfying.

OUR FEATURED ARTISTS:
Amy Webb
After 30 years as an elementary school teacher, Amy began taking art classes. Her artistic journey started with pastels and then it took an interesting turn as she discovered mixed media. She now is hooked on collage! Using vintage book pages, postcards, sheet music, maps, old magazines, scrapbook paper, sewing patterns, tissue paper, and rice paper, she creates unique paintings out of paper. She tears up these papers into tiny pieces and then puts them back together into a painting; it can take her up to 30 hours to create one collage. If you look closely, you might discover some little nuances and messages in her work. She draws most of her inspiration from nature, as she spends hours admiring its beauty! |
